What is the objective of the course? What is it?
What does it train you for?

The Master’s Degree in Statistics and Data Science has as its main objective the higher education of statisticians with high competence in data management and analysis.

The Course integrates the LM82 statistical class and the LMDATA data science class, also offering two curricula, one of which is entirely in English.

Graduates have skills and responsibilities to acquire, organize and process large datasets to extract information and create decision-making support for organizations.

Graduates are able to work with IT technologies and advanced programming languages.

Graduates have solid knowledge and skills in advanced statistical analysis, methods and techniques for data modeling and in specific statistical software.

Graduates in Statistics and Data Science possess advanced skills in data management, analysis and statistical interpretation, and they are able to solve complex problems using appropriate computer-statistical techniques in all possible fields of application of statistics and statistical methods (economics, finance, healthcare, medicine, environment, etc.).

A double degree with Spain is available (for the L41-LM82LMDATA program).

What do you learn?

In the Master’s Degree in Statistics and Data Science, students will learn to produce, extract, and analyze information and data to support management activities in the social, healthcare, epidemiological, environmental, economic, financial, and business fields, through – for example – skills in: quality and performance management. sampling for opinion polls; statistical models for forecasting and analysis of financial, insurance, environmental and healthcare risk; design, creation, and management of databases; design and management of experimental analysis and clinical trials; management of geographic information systems; analysis of the economic and social context; statistical analysis of the market and company balance sheet; techniques and tools for epidemiology and biological data analysis; methods and tools for cloud computing and data analytics; languages and software for advanced statistical programming for complex data; big data methods with applications in various contexts.

These skills are also developed through the availability of two curricula, one entirely in English and also open to international students.

A high degree of customization of the curriculum is made possible by a large number of elective courses.

Internships/traineeships and/or consultancy in Italy and/or abroad are available.

An Open Badge in Data Science is also awarded.

What can you do with it?

The graduates in the Master’s Degree in Statistics and Data Science are and will be highly sought after by the job market: the management and analysis of large amounts of data are transversal activities of fundamental importance in many applied sectors as highlighted by companies and experts.

The statistician with high competence in data science will therefore be able to carry out tasks of analysis of health, social, economic, business and financial data with forecasting, planning and decision making in public, private and research contexts, as well as in the field of official statistics.

Consequently, they can work in research centers and companies in a variety of disciplines, both in Italy and abroad, in theoretical and applied contexts, including advanced and specific modeling in the areas of economics, business, finance, biology, healthcare, epidemiology, database management, survey design, statistical research, data production and dissemination.

Hard and soft skills enable the acquisition of an Open Badge in Data Literacy (in addition to the Data Science Open Badge).

A dual degree with Spain is available through two different degree courses in Valencia (for the L41-LM82LMDATA program).
